The Barbara Bush Branch Library at 6817 Cypresswood Drive, Spring, was dedicated in 2003, and branch manager Clara Maynard said the library community will fondly remember the times First Lady Barbara Bush visited over the years. "Mrs. Bush has visited the Barbara Bush Branch Library seven times since the building was dedicated," Maynard said. "The first time was for the dedication and it was a big occasion with lots of people attending." On other occasions, however, her visits were unexpected. "The other times were unannounced visits where she surprised children, parents and most of the staff by coming in to read to children," Maynard said. "On many visits, she brought her little dogs. She not only read to the children but met and spoke to parents, staff and customers." The library remembered Barbara Bush with a tweet on Tuesday evening when news of her death spread across news outlets.
It’s a very sad day for us as we have learned our dear Mrs. Bush has passed away. We thank her for everything she’s done for our library and the world. We will be sure to honor her memory everyday. RIP Barbara Bush.
