[caption id="attachment_270821" align="alignright" width="460"]Cypress Creek FACE Buildings on Cypresswood Drive sustained damage from flooding last week.[/caption] Area school districts are planning for students to return to campuses in the next week, and community groups continue to gather donations in the wake of last week's flooding. Here are a few things to know this week in Spring and Klein:

  • Spring ISD has delayed the reopening of its schools until Sept. 11, citing a need to give families more time to recover from the effects of Hurricane Harvey. District employees will return on Sept. 7.
  • Klein ISD students will return to the district on Wednesday, one day later than previously announced. Staff returned to schools on Tuesday Students at Lemm Elementary School will report to Klein Cain High School on Thursday due to damage at the elementary school building.
  • Klein ISD's board of trustees adopted a $445.5 million budget for 2017-18 at its meeting on Aug. 31. The board also announced the names of candidates in the Nov. 7 board trustee election. Doug James, Wade Fennel, Dillan Anthony Dimas, Sangita P. Mallik, Seth J. Batiste and Vijay Patel are running for the one open seat. A candidate forum will be held on Oct. 3 at the Klein Multipurpose Center.
  • The Cypress Creek Christian Preschool is currently looking for six classrooms with an office to continue school services after damage was incurred at the school building.
Here is a list of ongoing donation efforts for hurricane relief: Spring ISD Education Foundation has set up a set up the Harvey Relief Fund for students and staff at http://give2springkids.org. Spring Klein Chamber of Commerce is accepting donations for hurricane relief through the “donate” button on its website. Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce set up a donation drive to help local businesses at www.youcaring.com/supportnwharris. Northwest Assistance Ministries, located at 15555 Kuykendahl Road, Houston, has started a Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund at https://15496.thankyou4caring.org/flood-relief. Cypress Creek Cultural District, which consists of nonprofit organizations including the Pearl Fincher Museum of Fine Arts, Barbara Bush Library and Cypress Creek Christian Church and Community Center is accepted donations at www.paypal.me/cypresscreekcultural.
