1 challenger files to run against incumbent in Klein ISD trustee election

One challenger has emerged for a Klein ISD board of trustee position up for election in November, after the filing period closed Aug. 18, while the second trustee position will be an unopposed race, according to election filing information posted on the district’s website.

Current situation

Board President Rob Ellis and challenger Justin "Bumpy" Wooldridge both filed to run for KISD trustee Position 7 in November, according to KISD’s website. Meanwhile, trustee Cathy M. Arellano is the only candidate who filed to run for Position 6.

Trustee Position 3 will also be up for election in November, but the deadline for candidates to file for special elections is Sept. 3, according to documents posted on KISD's website. Trustee Georgan Reitmeier is serving in the interim after former trustee Chris Todd resigned in May.

Each member of the board of trustees is elected to an at-large position for three years in a nonpartisan election, according to the KISD website.

The filing period for November’s general election opened July 20.

About the candidates

Ellis was first elected to the board of trustees in 2019 and won reelection in 2022, as previously reported by Community Impact. Wooldridge ran against trustee Nicole Peters for the KISD trustee Position 5 spot in November 2024.

Arellano was first elected to the KISD board of trustees in 2016 and was reelected in 2019 after running unopposed.
