Co-owner and motorcycle enthusiast Stephanie Lopez said the inspiration for Cold Start Coffee stems from her involvement in the local biking community. Lopez said she and her husband, Oscar, decided to open the coffee shop to offer a safe space for anyone in the area to gather.
The couple co-owns Cold Start Coffee with their friend and business partner Marshall Doreen, Lopez said. Interior build-out of the new café began March 9, and doors are expected to open in late May or early June, she said.
Lopez also owns a mental health-focused clothing brand called Throttle and Therapy, which she said aims to destigmatize conversations about mental health in the biking community. She said Cold Start Coffee will also focus on creating a sense of belonging for visitors.
"We've come to find a lot of people that don't have somewhere to go, that don't have community," Lopez told Community Impact. "[We're creating] a safe spot for them to go when they don't want to be home, when they don't feel like riding, or maybe they want to ride to a place."
About the business
The café will offer coffee and small bites, with plans to make the space available for regular events such as trivia night and book club meetings, Lopez said. The coffee shop will also be pet friendly.
