Updated at 9:30 a.m. March 7 With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Sam Harless has managed to avoid a runoff election by maintaining 50.58 percent of the vote in the Texas House District 126 Republican primary. Kevin Fulton and Gail Stanart followed with 35.90 percent and 13.52 percent of the votes, respectively. A total of 10,862 ballots were cast in this race. Natali Hurtado ended the night with 77.64 percent of the votes in the Democratic primary while her opponent Undrai F. Fizer clenched 22.36 percent. A total of 4,937 ballots were cast in this race. "I'm incredibly thrilled to have been chosen as the Democratic candidate for district 126," Hurtado said just after midnight. "It has been an amazing experience thus far, and I look forward to continuing meeting residents and hearing about the issues that matter to them. I plan to continue advocating for proper funding of our public schools, lowering our property taxes and bringing solutions and funding for those impacted by Harvey." Updated at 11:08 p.m. With 91.43 percent of precincts in the race reporting, Sam Harless has earned 50.08 percent of the votes in the Texas House District 126 Republican primary election, and could potentially head to a runoff election May 22. Kevin Fulton and Gail Stanart follow with 36.39 percent 13.53 percent of the votes, respectively. In order to avoid a runoff, Harless would need to maintain a greater than 50 percent share of the vote after all ballots are counted. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two candidates will compete in a May 22 runoff election. Harless said although the votes are close, he is optimistic and does not expect the race to result in a runoff. “We’re looking forward to running a strong campaign—like we did in the primary—in the general election,” he said Tuesday just before 11 p.m. “We’re looking forward to helping the Republicans carry Harris County. I’m very excited and blessed with the support we received in the community.” Fulton could not be reached for comment Tuesday night. With 85.71 percent of precincts in the race reporting, Natali Hurtado has claimed 77.55 percent of the votes in the Democratic primary while her opponent Undrai F. Published at 7:20 p.m. With early voting results in for the Texas House District 126 primary race, Sam Harless is leading the field of three Republicans with 50.59 percent of the votes, and Natali Hurtado is leading the Democrats with 78.39 percent of the votes. Kevin Fulton and Gail Stanart follow Harless at 35.95 percent 13.46 percent, respectively. Undrai F. Fizer follows Hurtado at 21.62 percent. A total of 5,970 Republicans and 2,577 Democrats cast votes during the early voting period.
