As families settle back into school routines, the YMCA of Greater San Antonio is welcoming the fall season with a packed lineup of programs and events for those looking to stay active.
“Fall is always a time for families to get reconnected, go back to school, they start thinking back about getting back into wellness, and so the Y is there for them whenever they make those decisions,” said Shannon Gowen, vice president of marketing and communications.
The nonprofit has released its 2026 Fall & Winter Activity Guide, offering activities from youth sports and aquatics to social gatherings for teens, adults and older adults to get into this season.
What is there to do at the YMCA this fall?
This year’s guide reflects the organization's commitment to serving every stage of life, as shown in its “150 Ways To Belong This Fall” checklist—a starting point for getting involved as well as a continuation of the nonprofit’s yearlong 150th anniversary celebration.
Tasks on the checklist range from “attend a family night” to “lift weights for the first time.”
“If you think that you know the Y and everything that we offer, I really encourage you to look at this because there's more than likely something that you weren't aware of before,” Gowen said.

What kids' programs is the YMCA offering?
Youth sports remain one of the YMCA’s biggest draws during the fall season, Gowen said and this year brings several exciting additions. The organization has partnered with NFL FLAG Football to expand the program at its Stone Oak, Potranco, O.P. Schnabel Park and Cibolo locations.
Youth soccer opportunities are also growing. The Harvey E. Najim Family YMCA recently unveiled a new mini-pitch developed in partnership with the U.S. Soccer Foundation, creating an enhanced space for young athletes to practice and play.
In addition to traditional leagues, families can find sports programs for volleyball, baseball, softball, cheer and soccer throughout the season.
Later in the season, when Thanksgiving and winter breaks sneak up on the calendar, the YMCA’s holiday camps for ages 5-12 can keep kids busy while school’s out.

What teen and adult programs does the YMCA offer?
This year’s guide highlights activities for groups that may not realize their options at the YMCA. Free Tween Nights provide opportunities for young people to connect with peers and hear talks on topics such as self-care and leadership.
Meanwhile, adults can enjoy game nights and recreational leagues designed to foster community and belonging, including softball, soccer, volleyball, flag football, basketball and kickball. Parents Night or Day Out events also offer a break for both the parent and child.
The YMCA’s Forever Well program continues to offer activities for active older adults ages 60 and up seeking social connection and wellness opportunities, from walking clubs and stretch classes to pickleball and Pilates.
“Stop by your closest YMCA location and see what fits your family,” Gowen said. “Whether you're looking for something for your kids, if you have kids, or something to support your own health, or simply just a way to connect with other people, there is something for you at the Y.”

How is the YMCA continuing to celebrate 150 years?
The fall season is especially meaningful for the YMCA of Greater San Antonio as the organization continues its yearlong celebration of 150 years of service to the community.
A celebration will take place from 6-11 p.m. Sept. 26 at Pedrotti’s Ranch in Helotes. The event, themed “Suits, Satin & Sneakers,” will feature interactive exhibits highlighting 150 years of YMCA history, dining and drinks, a live auction, photo ops and more.
Guests are encouraged to pair formal attire with their favorite sneakers as a nod to the YMCA’s role in inventing basketball and its ongoing mission of bringing people together through recreation and wellness.
