Sweet success: Kilwin’s Grapevine owner plans to expand to Waco

The smells of homemade ice cream, fudge and chocolate wafting through the air is not a typical occurrence in most people's offices. For Elizabeth Bartlett, this has been an average day for her ever since she became the owner of Kilwin’s Grapevine.

Located at 338 S. Main St., Grapevine, Bartlett started working there when she was just 16 years old. Five years later, with the help of family, she is now the proud owner of the franchise. With over 160 locations nationwide, she instantly knew the dessert shop was the perfect place for her when she first walked in.

“We have all kinds of handmade, original recipe treats that are so good,” Bartlett said. “What's not to love? I worked the counter for about a year, then was a shift supervisor, and two years later was promoted to the production manager. That's around the time the original owners told us of the opportunity to purchase the business.”

Inspired by her parents, Bartlett and her family offered to become the next owner of the franchise. For the past two years, she’s done exactly that and learned every aspect of the business.

Some of the products sold by Kilwin’s:
  • Original-Recipe Super Premium Ice Cream
  • Fine chocolates
  • Kilwins-own Heritage chocolate bars
  • Kettle-cooked perfect caramel apples
  • Hand-paddled fudge
  • Almond toffee crunch
  • Sea salt caramel chews
  • Made-in-store pecan snappers and cashew bear claws
  • Milk and dark chocolate sea foam
  • Kettle-cooked brittles and caramel corn
Bartlett is also working on opening a new Kilwin’s location in Waco early next year, after she was approached with a perfect location. Located next to the future Waco Convention & Visitors Bureau in the brand-new AC Marriott Complex, the new location near the Magnolia Silos is the perfect place for a new sweet shop.

“I'm super excited to be by Magnolia,” Bartlett said. “We will have a lot of Baylor college students as well there. I know they have a lot of football events, so I'm excited to learn all about all the Waco activities. Waco has a lot of new things; new restaurants, shopping and developments in progress. We're pretty excited about the opportunity.”

Ready to sink your teeth into some sweet treats? Stop by Kilwin’s Grapevine at 338 S. Main St. in Grapevine every day from noon to 9 p.m. or call 817-527-7676 to learn more.
