Mojo Coffee brews success with its focus on quality and community

The drive-thru experience to get caffeinated has forever changed thanks to Mojo Coffee. And they’ve gathered a following of loyal customers who shout out their praises.

Take for example their brand new Round Rock store located at 3100 RM 1431: a live person greets you as you pull up to order, and if you’ve been there before, they will likely remember your drink—even if it’s from their secret menu. But for the new and uninitiated customer, it’s a spell-binding introduction as the barista guides you to discover the perfect drink.

Custom coffees and frappes are just the beginning of the freshly ground odyssey. Mojo also offers hand-crafted energy drinks, smoothies, teas and lemonade, all hand-made. While Mojo’s menu wasn’t always this big, their dreams were.

Owner Austin Moon said it all began when his cousin wanted to make an impact in the lives of young people. They both worked in the financial services corporate world for years, so it was a major career shift when his cousin left to pursue a teaching certificate.

During that time he agreed to help a friend launch a couple of coffee shops. Moon and his cousin had always wanted to have a business together. So they sat down one day and Moon said, “You know, there are other ways you can make an impact on youth and a community, other than being a teacher.”

Mojo Coffee was born with the mission of not only serving the highest quality coffee, but to provide coaching opportunities not offered by most companies, such as life skills and help with financial planning.

“Things you wouldn’t typically get at a first or second job,” Moon said. “So that was actually our inspiration. Coffee just happens to be our medium.”

And what a medium it is. Austin and the staff at all six locations believe coffee is a conduit to show their deep sense of care and appreciation for the communities they serve. With their first tiny shop in Burnet opening in 2015, they have rapidly grown with no sign of slowing down. In 2023, they plan to open three new locations in Austin.

Mojo Coffee’s mission is to put their employees first with leadership training.

“If we can invest in them, by default they’re going to put our customers first,” Moon said.

Not only is customer service stellar, but employees feel invested in their jobs bringing creativity and innovation into the business. Some of the most popular menu items are the energy drinks such as the Shark Attack––Mojo energy plus blue razz, strawberry and a choice of coconut or lime––invented by an employee.

Mojo’s philosophy is paying off with happy, committed employees and very satisfied customers.

“If you take a look at any of our Google reviews in six shops, I don’t think we’ve got below four-and-one-half stars,” Moon said.

From roasting their beans to making their own cold brew, inventing unique energy drinks and offering fresh smoothies, Mojo encourages the employees and customers to come up with their own custom drinks adding specific flavors and shots of coffee. The result is a thriving culture where everyone—employees and customers—feel included and respected.

“You feel the fun when you drive up. We create a sense of community through a drive-thru window,” Moon said.
