As Prosper continues to grow, Rock Creek Church is adapting to meet the area’s changing needs. This evolution recently led to a major building expansion, designed not only to accommodate a larger congregation, but also to foster deeper personal connections.
The church recently completed Phase 1 of this project, doubling the size of its worship center and children’s ministry space. While the physical footprint has increased, Senior Director of Communication and Culture Haley Birkelbach said the mission remains the same.
“Our mission is to help people meet and follow Jesus, and we do that through our strategy called gather, grow and go,” Birkelbach said. “This means gathering as a community, growing together in community through groups, serving and Bible studies, and going into the community to serve.”
The pathway to expansion
Founded in 2008, Rock Creek Church began meeting in temporary spaces, such as offices and schools, before building its first permanent facility in 2019. Since then, attendance has increased significantly, prompting leaders to add multiple weekend services.
The new expansion has helped ease the strain by creating more seating and dedicated spaces for children’s programming. The church also relocated elementary and student activities into a separate building, now called the NextGen building, allowing ministries to operate more efficiently.
Future phases of the expansion are expected to add even more seating and additional classroom space, so children’s programs can eventually be housed in a single building.

Serving beyond the church walls
While the expansion addresses the practical need for space, community involvement remains a central focus.
Members regularly partner with organizations across the region, including Children’s Hunger Fund, Neighbors Nourishing Neighbors and Samaritan's Purse, providing support for families in need.
These efforts extend beyond North Texas as well, reaching mission partnerships around the world. Currently, Rock Creek supports 18 global missionaries and mission projects. They are prayerfully and financially involved in mission work in the Philippines, England, Africa, East Asia, Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Eastern Europe, the Netherlands, Australia, Italy and Estonia.
These initiatives reflect the “go” portion of the church’s mission, encouraging members to engage with and support the broader community.
Preparing for Easter
The church’s expansion arrives just ahead of one of the busiest times of the year: Easter weekend.
This year, Rock Creek Church plans to host eight services across three days:
- Friday, April 3, at 6 p.m.
- Saturday, April 4, at 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.
- Sunday, April 5, at 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Services will include live music, a message from church leadership and activities for children.

For Rock Creek Church, Easter is one of the most widely attended services of the year, bringing together regular attendees and people visiting a church for the first time.
“Easter is the reason that Christianity is what it is,” Birkelbach said. “For many people, it’s a celebration because we have freedom in Christ, but it’s also an opportunity to welcome people to hear about the hope of Jesus for the first time.”
A place to connect
Birkelbach said the goal of both the building expansion and Easter services is simple: creating a welcoming environment where people can gather, worship, explore their faith and build relationships.
Visitors attending Easter services can expect the same welcoming atmosphere the church aims to create year-round. Volunteers will be available to help families find seats, check in children and learn more about the community.
The invitation is open, whether someone attends regularly, is exploring their faith or is simply looking for a place to connect with neighbors.
