After decades behind private gates, one of North Texas’ most anticipated master-planned communities is opening its doors to the public for the first time.
Hillwood Communities has begun unveiling model homes at Landmark, a new development in Denton that blends history, growth and forward-thinking design. Once known as Hunter Ranch, the property has been held by a handful of families over the past century and is now stepping into a new chapter.
“We’re excited to open our doors and invite people in,” Senior Vice President Andrew Pieper said. “This property has been driven by for years, with people wondering what’s inside—and now they can experience it.”
A vision years in the making
Located along the growing I-35W corridor, Landmark represents the next phase of expansion in Southern Denton County—one of the fastest-growing regions in the country.
After acquiring the land in 1987, development began in 2024, and the first homes are now underway. The project is expected to unfold over 20-30 years, delivering a mixed-use destination with residential, retail and recreational spaces.
“This is just the first inning of a long-term project,” Pieper said. “The best is yet to come.”
Discover new model homes
The community’s launch centers on its model homes—designed to give buyers a tangible sense of life at Landmark.
In the first phase, nine builders are participating, bringing 10 model homes to the community.
Construction timelines vary, but the rollout is happening in waves. New model homes will open every week or two—following a staggered schedule that includes:
- American Legend Homes: 50-foot front entry lots are now open
- Highland Homes: 50-foot front entry lots are now open
- M/I Homes: 40-foot rear entry lots are now open
- Coventry Homes: 40-foot rear entry lots are now open
- Tri Pointe Homes: 45-foot front entry lots are now open
- Drees Custom Homes: 60-foot rear entry lots and 70-foot front and rear models will open in May
- Perry Homes: 60-foot front entry lots will open May
- David Weekley Homes: 45-foot front entry lots will open in May
- Toll Brothers: 60-foot front entry lots will open in May
Despite staggered openings, all builders are actively selling homes.
“By mid-May, everything should be complete—but buyers don’t have to wait,” Dallas-Fort Worth Marketing Director Diana Caroll said. “There are already homes available and quick move-in options.”
Homes designed for variety
Landmark stands out for its diverse home styles, sizes and prices, serving everyone from first-time buyers to those seeking luxury upgrades.
First-phase homes range from 1,600 to 4,600 square feet, priced from the high $300s to $1M+, with multiple lot sizes and architectural styles.
With several builders contributing designs, buyers can choose from fully personalized homes or quicker move-in options, ensuring a community that offers something for nearly every lifestyle.
Why touring matters
While online research is a helpful starting point, developers emphasize that touring model homes is a critical step in the homebuying process.
“Buying a home is emotional and personal,” Pieper said. “You can look online all day, but until you walk through a home, touch it, feel it and experience it, it’s not the same.”

“Within months of moving in, residents will have access to key amenities,” Carroll said. “That’s something you don’t typically see in new developments.”
A full-time lifestyle director is already on the ground to plan programming for when the first residents arrive.
Plan your visit
Model homes are open daily Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday 12-6 p.m. Visitors can walk in or schedule appointments for a more personalized experience.
As construction continues and more homes debut, the Landmark team is encouraging the public to explore the property, attend events and see the transformation firsthand.
“Come out, spend a few hours, walk the models and experience the community,” Pieper said. “We’re just getting started—and we’d love for people to grow with us.”
