For more than 50 years, NBT Financial Bank has grown by building relationships first. While the Grapevine branch represents the bank’s newest location, it is hardly a new community. NBT Financial Bank has worked alongside Grapevine families and business owners throughout North Texas for decades, making this expansion feel less like entering a new market and more like coming home. The new branch is expected to open in mid-September, with a grand opening celebration planned for early October.

“We do business for the people in our communities who we can make a difference for,” said Janice Spooner, Regional President. “From entrepreneurs and family-owned businesses to growing middle-market companies, we’re here to help businesses succeed because that’s how communities grow.”

For NBT Financial Bank, banking has never been just about transactions. It’s about helping businesses grow, creating jobs and strengthening the communities they call home.

Helping businesses grow

The new branch will focus on serving customers through personalized banking and local decision-making. NBT Financial Bank evaluates each customer individually rather than relying solely on automated systems or credit scores.

“We understand complicated income, and we read the whole story—not just an algorithm or a credit score,” Spooner said. “Every customer has a story, and good banking begins by listening before making decisions.”

That flexibility allows the bank to tailor lending solutions to businesses at various stages of growth, helping owners navigate expansion with guidance from local bankers who understand the regional economy.

One example involved a local dental practice that initially struggled to secure traditional financing as a newer business.

After meeting with the owners and learning about their goals, NBT Financial Bank restructured the practice’s banking and financing strategy around its long-term vision. The partnership supported the business’s expansion, allowing it to add more treatment chairs, hire employees and prepare for future growth into a larger commercial space.

By taking time to understand each client’s goals, NBT Financial Bank helps business owners build long-term financial strategies while avoiding common challenges that can slow growth.

For NBT Financial Bank, success isn’t measured by closing one loan. It’s measured by watching businesses continue to grow for years afterward.

Investing in the Grapevine community

Serving the community doesn’t begin when someone walks into one of NBT Financial Bank’s branches. It begins by showing up, building relationships and investing in the people and organizations that make communities stronger.

In addition to serving customers, NBT Financial Bank sponsors its monthly Mustang of the Month and Panther of the Month scholarships, recognizing Grapevine-Colleyville ISD students for leadership, service and the positive impact they make in their schools and communities. Applications for the upcoming school year will open soon.

“We want to empower our future leaders,” Spooner said. “Whether it’s recognizing student leaders through our monthly scholarships or helping children build healthy financial habits through our Going for Goals youth savings campaign, we’re investing in the next generation.”

Through Going for Goals, NBT Financial Bank encourages children to begin their financial journey by learning to save, set goals and practice good financial stewardship. Children who open a youth savings account receive a free soccer ball, reinforcing that every financial journey begins with a first goal.

For business owners and community members, Spooner also hosts the Hometown Banknotes podcast, available on YouTube and major podcast platforms. Each episode helps listeners make sense of national, state and local economic trends through practical conversations they can apply to their businesses and financial decisions.

When they aren’t teaching financial literacy, the NBT Financial Bank team supports local organizations including Nash Farm, GRACE, the Grapevine Chamber of Commerce and its Women’s Division, and 6 Stones, just to name a few, through volunteer service and year-round fundraising efforts.

Earlier this year, NBT Financial Bank launched its Founding 50 initiative to begin investing in the Grapevine community before the branch opens. For each of the first 50 new customers, the bank will donate $100 to one of six local nonprofit organizations preselected by NBT Financial Bank and chosen by the customer.

Community members interested in becoming one of the Founding 50 can learn more about the initiative and participating nonprofit organizations by visiting NBT Financial Bank’s Founding 50 webpage.

For Spooner, the new Grapevine branch represents more than expansion. It reflects NBT Financial Bank’s continued commitment to building relationships and investing in the communities it serves.

“We are who we are because of the roots that we came from,” Spooner said. “No matter how much we grow, our mission stays the same—to help people, support local businesses and strengthen our communities, one relationship at a time.”
