A new landmark is about to open in Colleyville.
On June 26, the city will unveil Heroes Park during its annual Stars and Guitars celebration, introducing a new space to honor military and community heroes and create a destination for residents to gather, learn and reflect.
Located near City Hall, the park transforms a smaller memorial area into a larger tribute that city leaders hope will serve generations to come.
How it happened
Heroes Park began with a shared belief that Colleyville's heroes deserved a larger, more visible tribute.
While the city had a small Heroes Park next to City Hall, community members saw an opportunity to create something more significant. In 2023, city leaders formed a citizen-led committee of residents, veterans and community advocates to shape the vision.
They reimagined the space as more than a memorial. Using available land near City Hall, the committee and city staff designed a park that honors military and community heroes while creating a gathering place for residents to learn and reflect.
“We want Colleyville heroes honored in a beautiful, significant way,” Mayor Bobby Lindamood said.
Remembering Colleyville's heroes
Heroes Park is about ensuring Colleyville's heroes' stories are never forgotten.
The inaugural class includes 193 honorees, mostly veterans with community ties. Individual plaques throughout the park recognize their service and contributions, creating a lasting record for future generations.
The park also honors community heroes whose dedication shaped Colleyville, reflecting the ways individuals can impact their community.
The park features large memorial walls dedicated to major military conflicts and bronze sculptures representing each U.S. military branch. At the center stands an eternal flame, symbolizing service, sacrifice and remembrance.
In addition to honoring individuals, the park includes a dedicated Colleyville history section that highlights the city's past and the people who helped build it. Together, these elements connect local stories to larger moments in American history while giving visitors a deeper understanding of the community's roots.

As the community grows, so will the park. Residents can nominate their loved ones for recognition, ensuring new heroes are recognized.
“When people walk through, they can see the faces on the sculptures behind why we are the country we are, the heroism behind the freedoms we have, and what it took to have those freedoms,” said Pamela Savoie, Gold Star mom and Citizen Committee member.

While remembrance is the foundation of Heroes Park, the city designed it for daily use.

The goal was to create a place for community events, outdoor activities and learning about the city's history in one visit.
Officials hope the park becomes a destination for ceremonies and for families, students and visitors exploring Colleyville.
“I love the aspect of Heroes Park being a community gathering place,” said Scotty Richardson, Deputy Mayor Pro Tem and Heroes Park Committee member. “It’ll be very visual; it’s not a way off somewhere forgotten. There’s going to be a lot of events and we will always remember our veterans while there.”
Why honor the past?
For city leaders, Heroes Park is about more than honoring the past; it's about ensuring those stories endure.
“It’s important that the younger generations see the sacrifices that the people who came before them—the military—that they sacrificed and died for our freedoms,” said Eric Newton, U.S. Army veteran and Citizen Committee member.
As veterans and longtime community members age, the experiences, sacrifices and contributions that shaped Colleyville and the nation can fade from memory. By creating a permanent place for these individuals, the city hopes to recognize local heroes in an enduring way for future generations.
Officials envision the park as a place for families, students, and visitors to learn about the people behind the names, gaining a deeper appreciation for the service, commitment, and sacrifices that built the community they enjoy today.
Heroes Park serves as a tribute to those who served our city and our country, reflecting the American values this community holds dear.
Grand opening celebration
The public will see the completed park during Stars and Guitars on June 26.
The free event will feature country music artist and Army Reserve veteran Craig Morgan and serve as the official grand opening of Heroes Park. “The Grand Opening program will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m., with the concert to follow at 8 p.m.
