On April 14, Allen ISD hosted its third annual Field Day for Everyone event, a districtwide celebration where children of all abilities come together to play, laugh and try new activities side by side.
District leaders said the event grew out of a broader effort to strengthen community engagement, while creating experiences that reach more students and families.
“We have a lot of games that are adaptive; they’re meant to be played by children of all abilities,” Chief Communications Officer David Hicks said.
Thoughtful planning and adaptive play
Behind the scenes, the event is shaped through collaboration with regional partners and Allen ISD staff, with a focus on designing activities that can be modified for a wide range of needs.
Organizers work with Region 10, an education service center supporting districts across North Texas, and adaptive physical education specialists to help select games that can be adjusted for participation.
Activities such as seated volleyball, parachute games, Connect 4, a dance party DJ and dart archery allow students to take part in ways that fit their comfort level and ability. Volunteers are also on hand throughout the event to support students as needed.
“The point of the event is to remove barriers and create an opportunity for all kids to play, have fun and not feel like there is an activity or an event that they can’t do,” Director of Community Services Ashley Crowson said.
A true community gathering
While the activities are the centerpiece of the event, it also serves as a hub for connection.
Local organizations, health care providers and service groups host booths for families. Food trucks and vendors add to the atmosphere, creating a relaxed, festival-like setting where families can linger and enjoy the evening together.

- Children’s Health
- City of Allen
- Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Allen
- Special Strong North Dallas
“This was our first time attending, and I brought my special needs daughter,” one attendee wrote in a message to the district. “The length of the event, along with the activities provided and the venue (gated area), worked really well for us. Thank you for this fun event.”
Strengthening relationships through shared experiences
At its core, Field Day for Everyone is about building relationships across the district.
Crowson said these shared experiences help families connect and strengthen support systems within the community.
“Our goal is to strengthen relationships across the district,” Crowson said. “By creating opportunities for families and the district to connect, we can work together more effectively to support and grow our students.”
The event is held on the district’s freshman football field, adding an extra layer of excitement while reinforcing its larger mission.
For many families, it’s more than a night of activities; it’s a chance to connect, feel seen and experience a welcoming community in action.
