What is Denton Digital?
Denton Digital isn’t a separate virtual campus; it’s a virtual learning program keeping students connected to Denton ISD. The opportunity arose in 2025 when the 89th Texas Legislature passed Senate Bill 569, allowing school districts to offer more virtual, hybrid and flexible learning models.
“This bill allowed us to offer choices families want,” Digital Programs Coordinator Erik Bossenbroek said. “With Denton Digital, students can have flexibility and stability while shaping their learning experience.”
The program is open to in-district and out-of-district students and serves kindergarten through 12th grade. Whether a student is starting their academic journey or preparing for graduation, Denton Digital provides a suitable path.
The program blends high-quality online instruction with ongoing support, clear communication, and engaging, age-appropriate lessons, giving students the tools to succeed academically.
“Denton Digital was designed with flexibility and student success at the center of every decision,” said Dr. Susannah O’Bara, Superintendent of Schools. “We know that every student’s learning journey looks different. Whether a family needs an alternative environment, a more flexible schedule, or a way to stay connected to Denton ISD while managing unique circumstances, this program gives them a high-quality option. We want every student to know they have a place here, no matter how they learn best.”
What will the school day look like?
At Denton Digital, there isn’t a set clock-in time for students. The program focuses on coursework completion, active teacher interaction and timely assignment submission. Students can structure their day to fit their pace as long as work is completed within the school day.
The school day varies by grade level and age.
Elementary students learn synchronously and asynchronously. They join live sessions with teachers while completing independent activities at their own pace. This approach allows direct instruction, engagement with classmates and independence in learning.
Middle and high school students can choose between a full-time virtual model or a hybrid model. Full-time students follow an asynchronous schedule through Canvas, with one-on-one check-ins with teachers for extra support. Hybrid students can take up to two on-campus courses or extracurriculars, combining hands-on learning and social connection with virtual instruction flexibility.
