A garden plot can begin with a few seeds. At Chambers Creek, it can grow into a morning spent outdoors, a new skill learned beside a neighbor and a harvest shared around the table.

That vision is taking root at The Grove Community Garden, the newest amenity at Chambers Creek, an award-winning 55-plus community by Caldwell Companies. Along with a dedicated Houston Methodist patient services coordinator, the garden reflects a broader idea of wellness: creating a life filled with movement, connection, purpose and the confidence of knowing help is close at hand when it is needed.

What does LiveWell mean at Chambers Creek?

At Chambers Creek, active living and connection are built into everyday life. Residents might begin the day on the trails, meet friends at Jerry's Cafe, head to the golf course or marina, and end the evening at a club gathering. With more than 35 resident-led clubs, an 18-hole Tom Lehman golf course, pickleball courts, miles of trails and a private marina, residents have plenty of ways to stay engaged and spend time with people who share the same interests.

“When you can step outside, work in a garden, maybe even learn something new and then share what you’ve grown with a neighbor, wellness becomes more than a routine, but rather a way of life,” said Claudia Rivas, brand experience and creative director for Caldwell Communities. “That is what living well at Chambers Creek is all about.”

Those experiences are guided by  Caldwell Communities’ six LiveWell pillars, which are woven throughout the community and consider the many parts of a full and healthy life:

  • moveWELL: Stay active through fitness, sports, golf and trails.

  • connectWELL: Build relationships through clubs, events and shared spaces.

  • eatWELL: Support healthy habits and nutrition, enjoying food as a way to gather.

  • learnWELL: Explore new interests, skills and experiences.

  • beWELL: Make time for reflection and relaxation.

  • giveWELL: Find purpose through community and service.

“We are very intentional with everything that we do,” Rivas said. “We truly believe that your life is made better because you chose to live in a Caldwell community.”

How will the new Community Garden bring residents together?

Expanding on those LiveWell pillars, Chambers Creek is opening its newest amenity: The Grove Community Garden. Situated atop a hill in The Grove, a central gathering hub home to The Chapel, vineyard and lake, The Garden offers views alongside a new space for neighborly connection.

Featuring approximately 42 raised-bed plots of varying sizes, a pavilion and storage sheds, the garden was built with residents, not just for them. Community members provided input during focus groups and worked with Caldwell’s lifestyle and development teams to construct the planting beds.

“It really is their amenity,” Rivas said.

Residents will be able to rent plots in different sizes and grow vegetables, herbs or flowers of their own. Those who are new to gardening can learn through the resident-led Gardening Club, Master Gardener workshops, guest speakers and seasonal demonstrations. Others may come for a farmers market, a harvest celebration or one of the farm-to-table dinners envisioned for the space. The garden offers a way to participate whether someone wants to tend a plot each week or simply enjoy what is growing.

“There is a real beauty in gardening because everyone can be part of it,” Rivas said. “You may rent a plot and grow your own vegetables, come for a class or join neighbors for a dinner or gathering. It creates a place where people can keep learning, share what they know and enjoy the experience together.”

In that way, the garden reaches across nearly every LiveWell pillar. It encourages movement and time outdoors, supports fresh food and continued learning, and gives neighbors another natural reason to see one another. What residents grow matters, but so do the conversations that happen between the rows.

How does the Houston Methodist partnership support residents’ health care?

Living well is not just about active days and social hobbies. It also includes support when it comes to personal health. Through Caldwell Communities' partnership with Houston Methodist, Chambers Creek residents have direct access to Gloria Smith, a dedicated Patient Services Coordinator who helps make the next step in healthcare easier to understand.

Through a phone line reserved for Caldwell Communities, residents, their spouses and dependents can reach Smith directly. She can help them establish primary care, identify specialists, find providers who meet their needs, coordinate appointments and referrals, and connect them with testing, same-day care or virtual options across the Houston Methodist system. She also helps answer questions and address concerns along the way, giving residents a knowledgeable person to call instead of asking them to navigate a large health care system on their own

“She is the person residents call when they are not sure where to begin,” Rivas said. “She listens to what they need, helps connect them with the right care and guides them through the next steps. That kind of personal support is incredibly valuable.”

The partnership extends the community's hospitality beyond its amenities. Whether a resident is looking for a new primary care physician or needs help finding specialized care, there is someone ready to help make the process feel more personal and less overwhelming.

A shared garden and a dedicated health care connection may serve residents in different ways, but both reflect the same promise: life at Chambers Creek is thoughtfully designed around the people who live there. Residents have more opportunities to care for themselves, care for one another and keep growing in the years ahead.
