Frisco’s rapid growth has brought more families, athletes and active adults to the area. With that growth comes an increasing demand for specialized orthopedic care close to home.
To meet those needs, the orthopedic clinic opened in July 2025 on the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Frisco PGA Parkway campus, giving patients access to a comprehensive team of specialists and services in one convenient location.
Dr. Matthew Paul, an orthopedic shoulder and knee specialist, is leading the clinic’s sports medicine services. He recently returned to North Texas after spending nearly two decades practicing in California. Originally from Garland and trained at UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dr. Paul said the opportunity to help establish the new PGA Parkway clinic felt like a natural next step.
“When they offered me the opportunity to be a part of this program, I couldn’t think of a better place to be,” Dr. Paul said.
Bringing sports medicine expertise to an active community
Within sports medicine, Dr. Paul treats a wide range of shoulder, knee, ligament and tendon injuries. That care extends beyond competitive athletes to patients of all ages and activity levels.
“We see a breadth of injuries, from younger patients with fractures to older patients who have had falls,” Dr. Paul said. “There is a high predominance of 30-, 40-, 50-year-old recreational athletes and active individuals. Many of the activities they’re doing result in soft tissue injuries, sometimes requiring surgeries.”
Common injuries Dr. Paul treats at the clinic include meniscus and ligament injuries in the knee, as well as shoulder injuries related to overhead sports, weight lifting and other physical activities.
The clinic’s goal is to help patients safely return to the activities that matter most to them—whether that means getting back to work, returning to a favorite sport or simply moving without pain. Treatment plans are tailored to each patient, and can include physical therapy, rehabilitation, injections or surgery.
Patient education also plays a major role in the recovery process. Providers walk patients through imaging such as X-rays and MRIs, explain injuries in detail and provide digital educational resources patients can reference at home. This helps them feel informed and confident in their treatment plan.
That patient-centered approach has led to meaningful outcomes for many patients. Dr. Paul recalled one patient who came to the clinic with a severe knee fracture and spent months recovering through surgery and rehabilitation. Around five months later, she returned to the clinic, walking pain-free with a full range of motion.
“She was crying because she was so happy with how everything turned out,” Dr. Paul said. “The road to get there was not easy, but she is back to normal and doing great.”
In addition to treating injuries, the clinic also encourages patients to focus on long-term injury prevention and recovery habits. Dr. Paul advises active adults to listen to their bodies, understand their limits and properly prepare for physical activity.

In addition to sports medicine, the clinic offers access to a wide range of orthopedic specialties, allowing patients to receive coordinated care close to home.

Having multiple specialists connected through one clinic allows providers to collaborate on complex cases and connect patients with highly specialized expertise when needed.
“If I have a concern with a patient who has a complex hand injury or a complex foot injury, we have a specialist [available to treat them], who only does hand surgeries or foot surgeries,” Dr. Paul said. “At PGA Parkway, we have all of those body parts covered by someone or multiple people.”
Supporting Frisco’s continued growth
As more residents continue moving to Frisco and surrounding communities, the clinic is positioned to become an important health care resource for the region.
“The clinic is a fantastic place,” Dr. Paul said. “It is new, vibrant and peaceful, and it is going to be a cornerstone of the Frisco community.”
