One weekend each year, state law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes. Aug. 10-12, shoppers can save about $8 on every $100 they spend, according to the Texas comptroller. Several Central Texas malls and outlets are extending their hours, hosting special events and giving away prizes during tax-free weekend. In addition to tax free weekend, other events and activities are being held in South Austin this weekend.
