Photo Courtesy Austin ISDFamilies in Austin can get the information they need to prepare for the coming school year—and walk away with free school supplies—at Austin ISD's Back-to-School Bash and Safety Fair on Aug. 24.
"It's sort of one-stop shopping to learn and get information and get questions answered in one location," said Vincent Torres, president of the AISD board of trustees. "I think it's a very helpful event, and I hope to see a lot of people there."
The 2013–14 school year begins Aug. 26. In addition to safety demonstrations and details about district programs, Back-to-School Bash attendees can receive door prizes, free school supplies and gear including bike helmets, Torres said.
A+ Federal Credit Union and local nonprofit The Neighborhood will give away more than 2,000 backpacks during the Bash while supplies last. Students can also receive free on-site immunizations from Seton Medical Center if they bring their vaccination records. Last year nearly 300 vaccines were administered, according to AISD.
