AISD board names officers, swears in four trustees

New board trustee Gina Hinojosa was elected as board vice president. Ann Teich, the new District 3 trustee, nominated her for the position, and she was elected 8–1. Bradley abstained from the vote.

The board elected Jayme Mathias as secretary. Bradley nominated incumbent secretary Moya, and Mathias won in a 5–4 vote.

"AISD students and families and members of our community, I look forward to serving you," Mathias said.

New board members sworn in

Mathias, Teich, Hinojosa and Amber Elenz were sworn in as trustees Nov. 19 and took public oaths during the board meeting.

Elenz secured the District 5 trustee spot after running against candidate Charlie Jackson in the election for the place formerly held by Mark Williams, the board's president and District 5 trustee who was first elected in 2004. Williams did not seek re-election.

Hinojosa defeated Pietruszynski in the race for Annette LoVoi's vacated at-large Place 8 seat.

Teich takes District 3 incumbent Christine Brister's seat.

Mathias unseated incumbent Sam Guzman for the District 2 place.

The outgoing board members each had the opportunity to thank their communities and fellow board members, and Superintendent Meria Carstarphen highlighted some of the trustees' accomplishments while serving.

"It's been my honor to be able to work with you," she said.
