The Austin ISD board of trustees elected new officers and welcomed four trustees to the dais at its Nov. 19 meeting.
After entering closed session to discuss individual candidates as permitted by the Open Meetings Act, the board opened the floor for nominations for president, vice president and secretary.
District 4 trustee Vincent Torres is the board's new president. District 1 trustee Cheryl Bradley nominated him, and he was elected 8–1 with District 7 trustee Robert Schneider voting against. Torres was first elected to the Austin ISD board of trustees in May 2006 and was re-elected in 2010. The office was most recently held by Mark Williams, a former District 5 trustee.
