Anyone who lives, works or attends school in Hays County is eligible to receive a free library card. Immediate plans for programming for the Library on Wheels include Dripping Springs and its extraterritorial jurisdiction. The ETJ of Dripping Springs spans approximately 110 square miles, Community Impact reported. All Hays County community members are able to participate in programming and access free resources at stops, according to DSCL Executive Director Mindy Laird.
In addition to the Library on Wheels, the DSCL is raising funds for a new facility as the organization and community have outgrown the current space.

“As we work towards our new building, we are going to make sure that we're able to continue to expand services now, and that's what this vehicle does,” Laird said. “It starts now.”

The background
The library was founded in 1986 within Dripping Springs High School and relocated to its current facility in 1999, when it served approximately 12,000 residents, according to previous reporting by Community Impact. Now, the library serves more than 54,000 residents.
DSCL officials have been raising funds for a new, larger library for the past few years. DSCL is a district library, so rather than receiving a portion of property taxes, the library receives 0.25% of sales tax revenue within district borders.
