Dripping Springs ISD officials will host a groundbreaking for the district’s newest elementary school June 18.

The groundbreaking will take place on the school’s site in the Headwaters neighborhood at 10 a.m. District leadership, including Superintendent Holly Morris-Kuentz and board member Stefani Reinold, will speak.
Explained
This will be the sixth elementary school in the district, and it will accommodate up to 850 students. The school has not been named yet and is slated to open in fall 2025.
DSISD voters approved the construction of the school in May 2023 as part of a $223.7 million bond. Dripping Springs Elementary and Walnut Springs Elementary schools are overcapacity, and the new school may alleviate the crowding.
Diving in deeper
At a state of the district presentation in February, Morris-Kuentz said district officials have seen an upward trend of students for the past 15 years. Dripping Springs has seen a 40% increase in the birth rate over the last four years, she said.
For the 2024-25 academic year, 8,900 students will be enrolled in the district, which has a capacity of 8,850.
Officials broke ground Feb. 16 on the Sycamore Springs Middle School expansion, which will increase the school’s capacity from 850 students to 1,200.

“When you think about our community, we have a lot of young families, and what that means is, in addition to the families who will be moving here, we also have families who are already living here with preschool-aged children and will be coming to school in the next four years,” Morris-Kuentz said.
