Dripping Springs ISD officially hires Holly Morris-Kuentz as superintendent

The Dripping Springs ISD board of trustees unanimously voted May 5 to hire Holly Morris-Kuentz as superintendent. Morris-Kuentz's hire comes after she was named lone finalist for the position April 13, kicking off a state-mandated 21-day waiting period before finalists' hires can be confirmed.

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to join this amazing team and to serve in Dripping Springs. Over the last 11 years, I've had wonderful experiences leading in a fast-growth school district, and I love the work of engaging a community," Morris-Kuentz said. "I know that as a growing district, there's much work ahead, and I'm really excited to roll up my sleeves and for us to get started."

The new superintendent comes to DSISD from Lake Travis ISD, where she most recently served as deputy superintendent. Morris-Kuentz replaces former superintendent Todd Washburn, who resigned his post in October after less than a year in the role.

Several community members spoke expressed concern about Morris-Kuentz's hire at the May 5 meeting, citing concerns about her record at LTISD. The speakers also said the board of trustees should have waited to announce a finalist until after the May 1 school board election. Stefani Reinold was elected in that race, along with two incumbents, replacing outgoing trustee Carrie Kroll.

"This superintendent hire should be delayed until all the 2021 election victors are seated and able to vote at the May regular board meeting later this month," said parent Collette Kraham. "We simply cannot afford another 'in-and-out' [hire]."

Board President Barbara Stroud said Morris-Kuentz had been thoroughly vetted during the 21-day waiting period, and that the board was confident that she was the right fit for DSISD.

"Our district is very much in need of a strong leader who will bring long-term stability to the position of superintendent of schools, and we believe that Dr. Morris-Kuentz is that person," Stroud said.
