As temperatures in the Austin area begin to heat up, Austin ISD officials are beginning to address the heating, ventilation and air conditioning problems with money from the $2.44 billion bond package passed in 2022.
In a nutshell
The first round of HVAC projects included in the 2022 bond package will begin this summer, specifically replacement projects that don’t require extensive permitting or engineering services, officials said.
Since the bond was passed, district officials said replacing the HVAC systems, starting with Title I schools, is a top priority. District officials also said much of the HVAC equipment throughout the district has gone beyond its useful life and needs to be replaced. Replacing the equipment will improve reliability, reduce maintenance and utility costs, and provide better a better learning environment for students.
