Austin Chronicle bids farewell to headquarters amid I-35 expansion

The Austin Chronicle relocated its headquarters from 4000 N. I-35, formerly the Elgin Butler Brick Co. building, to a new space nearby at 1000 E. 40th, in late January.

The Chronicle headquarters is one of over 100 properties along I-35 being acquired by the Texas Department of Transportation for its $4.5 billion expansion project. TxDOT will officially take possession of the Chronicle’s building on April 1.

What else?

The Chronicle will hold one last “free for all” event on Saturday, Feb. 17, to get rid of any remaining items from the building.

Among the items up for grabs are chairs, tables, desks, file cabinets, two big lateral file cabinets, a refrigerator, a set of cubicle walls and desks, old issues of the paper, and other vintage ephemera, Austin Chronicle Publisher Nick Barbaro said.
