New San Marcos Police Department chief narrowed to two candidates

The city of San Marcos has narrowed its search for a new police chief to two candidates—one is the chief of the Duncanville Police Department, and the other is the chief of the Abilene Police Department.

The city announced the remaining two candidates via a Sept. 28 press release.

Chief Robert Brown has been chief of the Duncanville Police Department since 2007 and began his career in Waco, according to city information.

Chief Stan Standridge has been with the Abilene Police Department for more than 25 years and has served as chief for the last 11, the release states

“It was a thorough process and we look forward to introducing Chief Brown and Chief Standridge to the community as we move toward selecting the next Chief of Police for San Marcos,” City Manager Bert Lumbreras said in the release.

There is an Oct. 14 event scheduled for residents to meet and greet both candidates, and the release states more specifics will be divulged on the San Marcos Police Department Facebook page when plans are finalized.

The release states City Council should select the new chief in either late October or early November.
