Terms and compensation Members serve four-year terms without term limits. The judge and commissioners are paid $128,705.04 and $97,151.04 annually, respectively.

Big decisions made in 2015

Improved operations The county improved day-to-day operations through better use of burn bans and fire prevention as well as improved emergency response during the two major floods in 2015.

Parking mobility program The program uses citizen volunteers to help the county ensure handicap parking spaces are not being used illegally.

1115 Medicaid waiver program The county continued the waiver program, which is used to provide health care services to indigent populations.

Top issues for 2016

Transportation work The county completed work on FM 1626 in Kyle and Buda, and continues a study of FM 150 in Kyle.

The Hays County Jail As of Jan. 5, the county had 83 inmates being held in other counties due to space constraints at the current jail. The county will discuss building a new one.

Drug and psych courts Veterans court, which helps veterans in the justice system, may spawn similar concepts for some drug offenders and those with psychiatric issues.
