Fry's Electronics has called it quits and made the announcement by shutting its website down and replacing it with a banner page explaining the closure. Fry's attributed the decision to changes in the retail industry, as well as challenges resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.
The closing comes a few months before the company's 36th anniversary and will involve a winddown process, which began Feb. 24 with the announcement.
In the online statement, Fry's said its hope is the gradual closure would "reduce costs, avoid additional liabilities, minimize the impact on our customers, vendors, landlords and associates, and maximize the value of the company’s assets for its creditors and other stakeholders."
The California-based business had 31 stores across nine states.
