San Marcos City Council adopts updated Vision SMTX Comprehensive Plan

San Marcos City Council adopted its updated Vision SMTX Comprehensive Plan and Preferred Scenario Map on Oct. 15.

The plan—which was originally adopted in 2013—establishes the goals and vision for the city’s future over the next 20 years. According to the city's website, the comprehensive plan is a “visionary policy document” that will guide long-term decision-making for the city’s:

• Housing
• Economic development
• Transportation
• Land use
• Environment

What else?

The Preferred Scenario Map will be used as a tool to determine how and where the city grows. The city of San Marcos is projected to add 42,000-64,000 new housing units and 51,000 new jobs by 2050, according to the comprehensive plan website.

Mayor Jane Hughson thanked everyone who contributed to the plan.

“I think we’ve got a good product,” Hughson said.
