Disney's The Little Mermaid
The fifth annual free summer musical series will be presented at San Marcos Plaza Park by the Broke Thespians Theatre Company. The family-friendly event will feature a cast of local students, university alumni and a youth ensemble.
Plein Air Exhibition
The Hays County Arts Alliance—which is made up of Inspired Minds Art Center, the Dripping Springs Art League, the San Marcos Art League and the Wimberley Art League—has opened its inaugural Plein Art Exhibition. The exhibition brings together plein air paintings created this spring at locations featuring water throughout Hays County. Those attending the exhibition will find paintings from local artists completed at locations such as Garison Memorial Park along Onion Creek, Blue Hole Regional Park in Wimberley, Madrone Springs Ranch in Dripping Springs and the Meadow Center for Water and the Environment in San Marcos.
Luau Pool Party
This pool party will feature music and snacks and is being held for individuals with disabilities. Online preregistration is required.
Kyle Police vs Fire Basketball Game
Check out a basketball match between Kyle police and firefighters to benefit local students. The nonprofit Unforgettable Families and Friends will hold a school supply drive for Hays CISD students. Suggested items to donate include backpacks, pencils, crayons, markers and notebooks.
August
Hays County Back to School Health Fair
The Hays County Health Department is hosting its annual Back-to-School Health Fair to support local students and families as they prepare for the upcoming school year. Those attending the event will have access to free vaccinations, health education and resources from over 40 vendors that promote student success.
Movies in Your Park
The summer movie series in San Marcos wraps up with the showing of Monsters University. Concessions are available for purchase, and attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or chairs.
Party in Your Park
Four times a year, the city of San Marcos Parks and Recreation Department brings the party to residents by visiting various neighborhood parks. This family-friendly event will feature yard games, music, refreshments and more at the Paul Laurence Dunbar Recreation Center.
Buda Summer Concert Series
The free family-friendly event continues in Buda, with Dysfunkshun Junkshun taking the stage to play a wide variety of your favorite hits. Those in attendance are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket.
Musical Comedy Murders of 1940
This comedic murder mystery will feature witty dialogue and a whodunit plot set during a rehearsal for a new musical. The play, directed by Ameer Mobarak, follows a group of characters as they try to solve the murder of a producer while developing a show.
