Election 2020: Smith, Davidson win in unofficial vote counts for Buda City Council races

With all precincts in Hays County reporting, Matt Smith has defeated LaVonia Horne-Williams for Buda City Council Place 1 at large with 3,560 votes to 2,952.

Monica Davidson has defeated challenger Bobby Lane for Buda City Council Place 1 at large with 3,803 votes to 2,505.

Results are updated as of 10:48 p.m. and are unofficial until they are canvassed and certified by the county clerk. Under Texas election law, the clerk accepts and counts mail-in ballots postmarked by Election Day and received by Nov. 4, if they were sent from inside the U.S., or Nov. 9 if they were sent from outside the U.S.

The first return of unofficial early voting totals on Nov. 3 from Hays County show Matt Smith with an early lead in the race for Buda City Council Place 1 at large, and Monica Davidson with early vote lead for City Council Place 2 at large.

Smith leads opponent LaVonia Horne-Williams with a 54.08% share of all early votes. Horne-Williams has 45.92%.

For Place 2, Davidson has 60.45% of early vote totals to challenger Bobby Lane's 39.55%.

More than 98,000 county residents cast ballots by mail or during in-person early voting, which accounts for 64.24% of 152,840 registered voters in the county.
