San Marcos CISD’s Miller Middle School upgrade on pace for August 2021 completion

Regarding cost of the upgrade, district information shows the project is currently $10.74 million into its total booked expenditures, with a projected balance of $8.86 million on its budgeted total.

Sandoval said the estimated remaining cost of the Miller project sits at about $10.6 million, giving it a budgeted overshoot of about $1.75 million.

However, Sandoval said when tallied with significant projected savings from other projects within the 2017 improvement bond, the district is still looking at almost $4 million in total savings.

The next phase of the Miller Middle School upgrade will see the facility get improvements to its third and second floors, including its library and administrative offices, Sandoval said.

Phase 1 has an April 2021 end date and includes a new orchestra room, a band hall and offices, Sandoval said.

Specifically, Sandoval listed completed initiatives at Miller Middle School to include a first-floor fire sprinkler, interior framing on the first floor, an added heating and air conditioning duct, and improvements to the science labs.

With regard to work scheduled into December, the campus will see more heating and air conditioning ducts, insulation and fireproofing, among other improvements and additions, Sandoval said.
