1. San Marcos CISD superintendent announces retirement after 10 years
Michael Cardona has served as the superintendent of schools for San Marcos CISD since 2016. On July 7, he announced his intention to retire at the end of September 2026.
What happened
In a letter posted to the SMCISD website from Cardona, he reinforced his high expectations for the district following his departure, including expanded opportunities through partnerships with Tarleton State University and the Lamar Institute of Technology.
“Serving this community over the past ten years has been the greatest honor of my professional life,” Cardona said in the letter. “It is now time for me to focus on my health and my family.”
Driftwood Springs High School’s official colors will be navy blue and gold following several months of community deliberation.
The Dripping Springs ISD board of trustees selected the official colors for Driftwood Springs High School at a June 22 meeting.
In case you missed it
DSISD officials voted to name the district’s second school Driftwood Springs at a May 18 meeting. Several community members spoke in favor of the name Driftwood High School, but the board ultimately chose to stick with the established naming pattern, which includes “springs” in every school name.
3. Hays CISD superintendent set to retire after 4 decades in public education
After eight years serving as the Hays CISD superintendent of schools and nearly 40 years in public education, Eric Wright will retire in February 2027.
“It has been the honor of my life to serve as your superintendent,” Wright said in an email to staff, parents and community members.
Career history
Wright began his career in public education in 1988 as a student teacher. He went on to become a teacher, coach, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent in several districts.
Wright has served as a superintendent since 2004 in districts such as Woodville ISD and Fredericksburg ISD before being hired by HCISD in December 2017.
