The Hays County Local Health Department reported four new COVID-19-related fatalities between Jan. 19-21—three people from Kyle and one from San Marcos.
There were 1,147 new cases confirmed by the county between Jan. 19-21 and 1,636 residents were considered recovered in that time, bringing the current active total up to 5,791. This time in December the active total in the county was 474.
Of the 27 people hospitalized, 15 are unvaccinated, or 56%.
Of those in the hospital, three are in the intensive care unit on ventilators, three are in the ICU without a ventilator, and the remaining 21 are not ICU patients. One vaccinated patient is in the ICU without a ventilator. Hays County includes residents with at least one dose of a two-dose vaccine as vaccinated in their reports.
