San Marcos record, apothecary shops relocate to combined location

Alchemy Records and Atypical Apothecary relocated to 145 S. LBJ Drive in San Marcos. The two businesses officially opened Jan. 1 but held their grand opening Jan. 21.

Alchemy Records owner Walter Thorington's shop was previously located at Red Bud Roasters, and Atypical Apothecary owner Dina McAweeney was operating in the back room of Studio 13. The two made the decision to move together because of their similar styles. The move gave the two more space to expand their inventory.

"I've been able to add a ton of records here," Thorington said.

The record shop sells a wide array of genres and artists.

"I try to get the things you can't find anywhere else," Thorington said.

Atypical Apothecary also holds charm readings on Saturdays and carries a variety of teas and crystals.

"I have over a hundred herbs and teas, and we support local artists," McAweeney said.

The two businesses are located at 145 S. LBJ Drive, San Marcos, next to Cats Billiards, and are open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
