In March, H-E-B, the city of Buda and multiple Hays County entities announced a partnership to transform a former landfill site into the location of a brand-new supermarket.
A Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing revealed details about the store's cost and development timeline.
What happened
H-E-B will develop the former landfill site that has been vacant for decades on the southbound access road of I-35, north of Main Street, into a new grocery store. The store is expected to create at least 50 full-time jobs in its first year, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
The business's TDLR filing, registered on Sept. 22, puts the total construction cost at $61,249,595.
Crews are expected to begin building the 132,563-square-foot supermarket on May 1, 2027, and complete construction on June 12, 2028, according to the filing.

H-E-B partnered with a number of local entities to facilitate the new store’s development, including the city of Buda; Hays County; Hays County Emergency Services District No. 8, or ESD 8; and the Buda Economic Development Corp., or Buda EDC.
Due to the site’s former use as a landfill, all partners conducted reviews of the land to ensure its safety, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
H-E-B will also complete a traffic impact analysis to determine any necessary roadway improvements and repurpose at least 60% of the existing Buda store for new retail and sales tax-generating businesses.
