Companies may again seek door-to-door solicitation permits in Buda

Following a temporary suspension of permit issuance for door-to-door solicitation in Buda, officials have decided to again allow companies to sell to residents—provided they are willing to go through the process of applying for and paying for the permits.

During the April 20 Buda City Council meeting, staff said the matter had come to consideration after a local pest-control company requested the removal of the permit restrictions since the mandate was no longer mandatory in Texas.

City Council suspended issuance of solicitation permits Aug. 4 due to concerns about spreading the COVID-19 virus.

A city document states that since Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order in March rescinding the statewide mask mandate, Buda officials could safely issue solicitation permits again.

Repeal of the ordinance allows new companies to request 90-day solicitation permits at a cost of $250, according to city staff.

“As much as I’ve enjoyed not having my doorbell ring, since we do have a business coming forward and looking to promote their business, and If they’re willing to go through the process and actually register, then I can support bringing this back online,” Council Member Matt Smith said.
