Latest update
During a Nov. 3 special City Council meeting, Schertz council members unanimously approved an election to take place Dec. 20 to fill the vacancy left by Tim Brown, who died Oct. 19.
The election was called in accordance with the Schertz Code of Ordinances, which states that council shall call a special election to fill a single vacancy with 365 days or more left on the term. The Place 7 term expires in November 2027.
According to the election resolution, the Texas Constitution states that a vacancy shall be filled through an election within 120 days of the vacancy, which Schertz City Secretary Sheila Edmondson said would be Feb. 16, 2026.
Edmondson said Guadalupe County’s elections office has agreed to administer the election in Guadalupe, Bexar and Comal counties.
What’s next
Canvassing for the Place 7 election will end Nov. 10, Edmondson said.
Early voting for the election will be weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Dec. 3 through Dec. 16. Both early voting and election day voting will occur only at the Schertz Annex at 1101 Elbel Road and the Guadalupe County Elections Administration Office at 3251 SH 123 N., Seguin.
Canvassing of the election results will take place Dec. 30, Edmondson said, with a resolution for a runoff election to be read that night if needed.
