Filing for Schertz and Cibolo City Council positions in the Nov. 5 General Election began July 20. The deadline to file for a place on the ballot is Aug. 19.

Schertz

Place 6, held by Allison Heyward, and Place 7, held by Tim Brown, are up for election in November. The term for these seats will be through November 2027.

According to the city code of ordinances, qualifications for candidacy include the following:
  • Must have attained the age of eighteen or older on the first day of the term of office for which elected
  • Be a registered voter of the City of Schertz
  • Have been a resident of the City of Schertz for at least twelve consecutive months immediately preceding the deadline for filing for an application for a place on the ballot
Applications are available in the City Secretary's Office, located at 1400 Schertz Parkway, Building 2, Schertz, or on the city website.

Applications can be dropped off at the City Secretary’s Office Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.


Cibolo

Starting in November, Cibolo City Council will be transitioning into new districts, which will include Place 1, held by T.G. Benson and Place 4, held by Katie Cunningham.

District 5, held by Norma Sanchez-Stephens and District 6, held by Dick Hetzel, will be converted into at-large seats.

At-large seats can be filled by any Cibolo resident that meets the requirements. According to the city website, the following qualifications must be met:
  • Must be a qualified/registered voter
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must be a resident of the district you are running for in City of Cibolo for a minimum of one year prior
Applications can be found on the city website or at City Hall, located at 200 S Main Street, Cibolo. Applications can be dropped off Monday through Friday 8 a.m.-5 p.m.


What else?

Municipalities will have until Aug. 19 to call for an election. The last day to register to vote in the November election is Oct. 7. Information on voter registration can be found here.
