Judson ISD has approved the selection of architectural services for its districtwide Long-Range Facility Plan and Education Specification project.

The overview

The JISD board of trustees selected architect firm Corgan Associates Inc. to provide services for its Long-Range Facility Plan and Education Specification project at an estimated cost of $288,750 on Dec. 18.

Corgan Associates will be responsible for establishing school facility standards for construction. The firm will also make sure capital improvement projects and future construction that receives state funding align with Texas Administrative Code, according to board documents.

The Long-Range Facility Plan and Education Specification project will be funded by the district's 2016 bond.

More details

According to board documents, the long-range facility plan will examine:
  • Existing and proposed instructional programs
  • The age and condition of buildings and systems
  • History of completed capital improvement projects
  • Site evaluations
  • Educational specifications
  • Enrollment projections
  • Safety and security standards
Educational specifications are a written document prepared by JISD that includes the district’s mission, vision and goals when it comes to design. Specifications will be written for a middle school and a high school, according to board documents.

What they’re saying

Board President Monica Ryan asked JISD staff if the Texas Association of School Boards was solicited in the process. Corgan Associates was chosen over other bids from VLK Architects, Garza/Bomberger & Associates and Pfluger Architects.

Assistant Superintendent of Operations Daniel Brooks said the district did reach out to TASB, but for this particular service, he said the pricing was “not cheap.”

What else?

The Long-Range Facility Plan expires after five years from the date of the final plan presented to trustees. The plan must be updated prior to the commencement of a subsequent capital improvement project, board documents state.
