About the program
Bezos Academy is a tuition-free, year-round and full-day preschool for children ages 3-to-5, according to a Nov. 19 news release.
When determining which community to locate a new preschool, Bezos Academy looks at the number of children enrolled in a school and the demographics of the community, Bezos Academy Director of Partnerships Sabrina Watkins said.
“At Bezos Academy, we believe that all children deserve the great start that an excellent preschool provides,” Watkins said.
What else?
The location at Northeast Lakeview College is one of nine academies in Texas, and the only academy in the San Antonio area.
Veronica Garcia, president of Northeast Lakeview College, said this program helps support the community by offering tuition-free preschool to underserved families.
“We are so proud to be a partner of Bezos Academy,” Garcia said. “We have so many underserved families here.”
Bezos Academy Universal City features four classrooms supporting 20 students each. The academy is open to families earning up to 400% of the federal poverty level, which is an estimated $125,000 annually for a family of four.
