Three residents—Tracie Shelton Hervey, Jacqueline Klein and Rhonda Rowland—applied by the March 4 deadline for a special election set for the North East ISD District 2 board seat.

The background

Eligible NEISD residents had until March 4 to file to run for the District 2 post, which has been vacant since the death of trustee Terri Williams.

Since then, sitting board members have disagreed on an interim appointee or deadlocked on votes to replace Williams for the remainder of her term, which ends in May 2026.

NEISD officials said Hervey, Klein and Rowland will be on the May 4 ballot alongside nine other contestants who are running for four other board seats in the same election.

A closer look

Williams outlasted Klein and Rowland in the May 2022 school board election.

Hervey, Klein and Rowland applied last fall to be appointed to the vacant District 2 post, and all were interviewed by the board, whose six members could not arrive at a consensus or majority vote on an appointee.
