According to a news release, the 103,000-square-foot facility will house diagnostics, therapy, specialty care and research. The new brain center will include 91 rooms for exams, testing and treatment, 12 infusion chairs and a 7T MRI scanner. Additionally, the center will feature lounges and rooms dedicated to meditation, art and music.
The new brain center is also home to the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases. According to UT Health’s website, the institute researches dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases and pioneers new preventative methods, early diagnosis and therapies.“This center represents progress, real, meaningful progress and a future filled with compassion and hope for patients and families dealing with disorders of the brain," Dr. Carlayne Jackson, chair of the Department of Neurology at the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at UT San Antonio, said during opening remarks. "What makes this place remarkable is not just the building, but it's how we tie people and expertise together. The work of our neurology team is deeply woven in this Center's mission to advance brain health through collaboration across multiple disciplines.”
