According to a news release, each hospital won the award due to its patient outcomes. To determine the top performers in patient safety, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted complication and mortality for an estimated 4,500 hospitals nationwide. According to Healthgrades’ study, patients treated in hospitals that received the 2025 Patient Safety Excellence Award have a significantly lower chance of experiencing one of the four leading safety indicators that account for roughly 76% of all incidents.
Top 5% four safety indicators:
- In-hospital falls resulting in fracture are 54% less likely
- Collapsed lung due to a procedure or surgery in or around the chest are approximately 55% less likely
- Pressure sores or bed sores acquired in the hospital are roughly 69% less likely
- Catheter-related bloodstream infections acquired in the hospital are 72% less likely
This is the second consecutive year that Methodist | Stone Oak was placed in the top 5%.
