Trustees for Northside ISD along with one teacher and one campus in North East ISD were honored at the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards ceremony on April 30.
Taking place at the La Cantera Resort and Spa in northwest San Antonio, the ceremony saw a total of $430,000 in cash awards and grants given to eight educators, two school districts, one early childhood school and a public school board for being among the best in Texas, according to a news release.
San Antonians receiving H-E-B Excellence in Education awards include:
- Leadership Secondary School: Aime Charney, creative writing director, North East School of the Arts, NEISD
- Early Childhood Center: Pre-K Academy at West Avenue, NEISD
- School Board: NISD
- Lifetime Achievement Elementary School: Lisa Berry, teacher, Woodridge Elementary School, Alamo Heights ISD
The winners were chosen from a pool of 58 finalists by judges who included former winners, school administrators, and university and community leaders, the release said.
Representatives from H-E-B said the Excellence in Education Awards program has awarded more than $13 million in cash and grants to Texas teachers and schools since 2002. Officials with the grocer award nominations are now now accepting for 2024.
