On May 1, the San Antonio City Council approved an acceptance agreement between the City, the San Antonio Medical Foundation and the Medical Center Alliance, accepting and appropriating donations to help fund the creation of the New Medical Center Area Park.

The details

According to city documents, the San Antonio Medical Foundation is contributing $1 million towards the development and construction of the new park. The foundation is also donating an acre of land valued at $368,515, which will be used for a small playground and public parking.

Additionally, City Council also accepted an in-kind donation of $1 million from the Medical Center Alliance, which procured a design consultant who will provide final design documents. The donation also funded real property acquisition services in support of the project.

About the project

Located in District 8, the New Medical Center Area Park is within close proximity to the Floyd Curl Greenstreet trails and neighborhood housing.

It will include a new section of greenway trail, which will run along Huebner Creek between Eckert Road and Floyd Curl Drive. The new trail will also connect Huebner Creek to Leon Valley and Medical Center trails. Funding for the new trails is approximately $11.92 million and includes funds for land acquisition, design services and construction.

According to city documents, construction of the park is estimated to begin summer 2025 and end spring 2027. Funding for the project will be taken from the 2022 General Obligation Bond.
