Several New Braunfels intersection improvements underway

Drivers in New Braunfels will see improvements at several road intersections, with ongoing construction anticipated to be completed by the end of the year.

New Braunfels voters approved Proposition A—outlining plans for eight transportation projects throughout the city and totaling $99.33 million—in the 2023 bond. Among those projects, Phase 1 of the citywide intersection improvements was funded for $5.21 million.

259 Home Market closing doors after 13 years in Boerne

A local home decor shop is closing its doors after over a decade on the Hill Country Mile.

What you need to know


259 Home Market, located at 259 S. Main St. in Boerne, is shutting its doors in the beginning of October, owner Jordis Ernst told Community Impact.

The business first opened in the spring of 2012.

Ernst said that she plans to retire, and it will be too difficult to run the shop remotely.

First look: Check out Boerne's newest sports card shop

A new sports card shop has just opened its doors in Boerne, filling a niche that owner Jason Zamora said didn’t exist before in the area.

Long story short

After starting his first card collection at just 7 years old, Zamora said that the hobby faded as life went on.


Then, decades later, his son got into Pokemon cards—and he was back into it.

“He started taking me to stores to get those cards, then I saw pretty much all of the brands that I used to collect back in the day,” Zamora said. “From there, I bought a pack, and it just never stopped.”

The locally-owned car wash chain opened its fourth location in the Northeast San Antonio area. Big League Car Wash offers touch less washes, vacuums, mat cleaners and monthly wash memberships.

Eberhard Lumber to close after over 70 years in New Braunfels

A locally-owned hardware store and lumber yard is planning to close its doors after seven decades of serving the New Braunfels area.

What’s happening

Eberhard Lumber—owned by husband and wife duo Diana and Dennis Eberhard—announced on Facebook that they were planning to close for retirement by the end of the year.

“It’s just time to retire,” Diana Eberhard told Community Impact. “We’ve made so many friends and seen so much change here.”

Gong Cafe bringing Japanese cuisine to New Braunfels

A new Japanese restaurant is set to open soon in New Braunfels.

In case you missed it

Owner Mel Cowsert said that she’s planning to open Gong Cafe to the public Sept. 6.

It’s located at 111 South Union Ave., Ste. 123.

Main course

The new eatery will offer a diverse and authentic sushi menu, complete with special rolls, bento boxes and more, Cowsert said.
