The Comal ISD board of trustees approved a key construction cost milestone for Elementary School No. 22, advancing the district’s plans to address enrollment growth through its 2023 bond program, at a meeting Jan. 22.
What happened
Trustees unanimously approved the Guaranteed Maximum Price No. 2, or GMP-2, of approximately $58.43 million for the construction of the new elementary campus. The approval marks the final step in a three-phase process to select and authorize the project. GMP-2 covers the remaining construction work not included in the first guaranteed maximum price, which included early construction items such as the elevator and heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment, according to board documents.
The board selected Bartlett Cocke General Contractors as the construction manager for the project in October 2023. The construction manager works alongside the district and design team throughout the design process to refine the scope of work, evaluate market conditions and provide detailed cost and scheduling estimates, agenda documents state.
