Northeast Lakeview College unveils Paluxy Hall

Northeast Lakeview College unveiled its newest building Aug. 17 with a ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony.

The Northeast Side community college, the newest campus of the Alamo Colleges District, opened Paluxy Hall, the college’s 10th facility, which will enable to college to expand its offerings in science and engineering, career and technical programs and will host an expansion of San Antonio College’s nursing program, according to a Northeast Lakeview press release and video.

“This facility will provide additional access to education for students pursuing high-demand, high-wage fields,” Northeast Lakeview College President Veronica Garcia said. “Our science courses fill quickly. This new building will allow us to expand course offerings to meet the growing needs of our community.”

The $36 million, 86,390-square-foot facility was constructed as part of the Alamo Colleges District bond that was passed in May 2017 and features quiet spaces for collaboration or study, a third-floor multipurpose room with the ability to host large events and a study cafe, according to the release.

Spaces are equipped with electrical outlets, USB ports and automatic motion sensor lights. Classrooms and labs include IDEA screens and projectors for engaging students. Classes began Aug. 22 in Paluxy Hall.

“With additions like Paluxy Hall, we are truly developing groundbreaking futures,” Alamo Colleges District Chancellor Mike Flores said. “Our colleges are able to expand their services and program offerings, and it allows us [to] serve more students than ever before. The success of our students impacts our larger community. We are committed to decreasing the poverty gap in the areas that we serve by preparing our students for in-demand careers.”
