Shavano Park hosts holiday celebration Dec. 4

Shavano Park residents are invited to come to City Hall and enjoy holiday festivities Dec. 4.

The holiday festival begins at 2:30 p.m. at 900 Saddletree Court and wraps up at sunset, local officials said. Admission is free.

According to the city, activities will include photos with Santa Claus and The Grinch, a Christmas tree-lighting ceremony, live entertainment, a snowscape, children’s crafts, caricatures, and a poinsettia sale.

The celebration will also be the culmination of a cookie decorating contest where entrants are required to bake or buy one dozen of any type of cookie and decorate them for judging. The contest will have three age groups: 1-5 years old, 6-12 years, and 18 years old and older.

City officials said each batch of cookies will be judged on creativity, originality, taste and overall impression.

Entrants are asked to submit their cookies and a list of ingredients by 2 p.m. Dec. 4 by dropping them off at City Hall with City Secretary Trish Nichols or Jessica Chinski, public works and water office manager.
