To kick off the new year, the Schertz Family YMCA will host the first annual Polar Bear 5K and Plunge.
While the plunge is an event hosted each year at the Pickrell Park Pool, the 5K is a new event, inviting the community to participate in a physical challenge at the beginning of the year.
The details
The event serves as a fundraiser with proceeds benefitting scholarship programs and community initiatives.
Both activities will be held at Pickrell Park, and the 5K route will take participants through the trail around the park.
The 5K will start with competitive runners followed by walkers and those with strollers.
After the race, the Polar Bear Plunge will begin, where members of the community can jump into Pickrell Park Pool.
During the activity, hot cocoa and fire pits will be available to help attendees warm up.
